Wi-Fi and VPN connection adjustment and customizing

So, you need PDA with Wi-Fi capabilities and Windows Mobile (2002-2003, 5.0, 6.0) installed.
Activate Wi-Fi. When you are in the coverage zone – your device will notify you.



The system notification will prompt you to choose the connection type: The Internet or Work. Choose The Internet and push Connect. Once you are connected – you may start tuning the VPN connection.
Push Start/Settings/Connections



Click Connections icon:



Go to Advanced to fix some options:



Push Select Networks, and you will get the following:



In the first item Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: choose My ISP (normally – default meaning). In the second item Programs that automatically connect to a private networks should connect using: choose My Work Network (normally – default meaning). Than push the button Edit for the second item of menu My Work Network and go to VPN submenu



Push the button New to create new VPN connection



Insert the name of your connection to the field Name. It can be random or leave it default – My VPN. In the field Host name/IP insert the address of your VPN server. Click Next – you will get User name/Password/Domain window



Fill the User Name and Password. You can leave the Domain window empty. Push Finish. If everything is done in the correct way – you will get the following screen:



Push OK button, return to Select Networks window and again push OK. You will see the following:



Now – the main step!!!

Push the button Exceptions. You will see:



Choose Add New URL. In the window appeared insert */* to Work URL field



Push OK. You’ll get the new item in the list:



The Internet access is not available via VPN without the last step! It’s the feature of Windows Mobile. The Windows Mobile developers made a decision that VPN is not necessary to get the Internet connection. Or if the user wants to use VPN – he would use Proxy. So the line */* makes it possible for the Connections Manager to use VPN for any Internet addresses.
Now – all done! Push OK several times to come to Today Screen. Click the Connections icon. You will see the following:



Push Connect VPN. It can take several seconds to connect you.
